This lesson introduces students to coastal ecosystems, ocean oxygen and how microbes in the ocean impact the carbon cycle and the humans who rely on natural resources. Students engage in an interdisciplinary role playing mystery activity where they take on the identity of three stakeholders in a crab fishery on the Oregon coast: a fisherperson, policymaker and scientist. Together, students use their skills to brainstorm and propose local solutions for a coastal community.
